RUMC Welcomes Professor Simon Jones, Vice-President & Registrar

RCSI & UCD Malaysia Campus (RUMC) is pleased to announce Professor Simon Jones as its new Vice-President and Registrar.

With a wealth of leadership experience in both industry and academic spheres, Professor Jones joins RUMC after having spent the last three years as Vice-Chancellor of the National University of Science and Technology (NU) in Oman, where he was responsible for strategy, delivery, quality, finance, and government relations.

A deep interest in engineering design from an early age led Professor Jones to complete his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in computer science and computer engineering. He obtained his PhD in Electronic Engineering and was promoted to a full professorship at Loughborough University just five years after obtaining his PhD.

Professor Jones’ additional personal honours include a Royal Academy of Engineering Research Chair and winning the British Association for the Advancement of Science Brunel Award, given annually to ‘a leading scientist under 40’. He has also published over 100 refereed scholarly works in Computer and Electronic Engineering.

RUMC’s new Vice President has a proven track of leadership capabilities in various institutions worldwide. Among his notable roles include Chief Executive Officer of MIT Media Lab (Europe); College President of the Abu Dhabi Men’s College, United Arab Emirates; Provost of Nazarbayev University, Kazakhstan; and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Vice-President) of Cranfield University, United Kingdom.
