RSCI & UCD Malaysia Campus commemorates Evidence-based Healthcare Day 2021

The last two years the pandemic and accompanying “infodemic” have more than ever highlighted the importance of having high-quality, unbiased evidence for healthcare decision-making, available in a timely manner, accessible by all.

RSCI & UCD Malaysia Campus has always been involved in promoting evidence-based information. Training students in appraising evidence has been part of our curriculum for 15 years. We have also been involved in several research projects testing ways to get research evidence into clinical practice

But very importantly we are home to Cochrane Malaysia.

Cochrane Malaysia continues to contribute towards this goal by producing systematic reviews and training people to understand and use systematic reviews. We are also working with volunteers to translate Cochrane summaries into Bahasa Malaysia

In particular, we highly recommend our students and staff to participate in the Cochrane Crowd 12-hour COVID Quest screening challenge or tune into this webinar on Science communication

RUMC Student’s Association worked with Cochrane Malaysia to organize a message board contest for students and staff to put up their opinionsthoughts or personal experiences on “What does Evidence-based Medicine mean to you?”
The winner of the contest was Omar Aziz Azman, a 3rd-year medical student (Class of 2023).

“The judges were unanimous. They commented that they liked the way that Omar’s message had included that, in practising EBHC we need to evaluate the strength of the evidence. The pandemic has really highlighted this need. We all need to understand both certainty and uncertainty of evidence, ” said Prof Jacqueline.

The honourable mention went to Alia Nadhira Bt Mohd Alias of Class of 2023.
